Manual vs Automatic Transmission in New Braunfels, TX
There are three main transmission types you will find in most Kia vehicles in our inventory. It can sometimes be confusing to learn the differences between the three of them, so we at World Car Kia New Braunfels have prepared this overview of manual vs automatic transmissions. Read further to learn more, and if you still have any lingering questions, you can contact us. One of our technicians will be more than happy to help put your mind at ease.
Manual
The least common gearbox is the manual transmission. This option will provide the driver with more control over the gear shifts of the model based on the terrain and the speed at which you’re cruising. Because it requires additional knowledge about shifting gears, it is not the ideal option for a brand new driver or someone inexperienced in this mechanism. Not only that, but your purchasing options are limited as most vehicles contain an automatic transmission. Services should be performed for this model every 30,000 to 50,000 miles. Because it does not self-regulate you should be on top of the transmission’s health.
Automatic
In most of the Kia models in our inventory you will find an automatic transmission, the most common of all the systems. This gearbox self-regulates, and is found in various models. Additionally, it does not require shifting knowledge, making this the ideal choice for first-time drivers and experienced drivers with a desire to focus solely on the road. However, it’s important to note that because you’re not the one controlling the shifting gears, you will have less say in the way your vehicle drives on specific terrains. If you’re not looking for this, then we recommend you set your sights on another system. Any maintenance can be scheduled with our Service Department every 60,000 to 100,000 miles.
CVT
The final option is known as the Continuously Variable Transmission, or CVT. This system brings together elements from the two prior transmissions, but remains unique in its mechanical make-up. It’s similar to an automatic system because it self-regulates and does not require the driver to shift gears. Similar to a manual transmission, it requires services every 30,000 to 60,000 miles. This is because the CVT does not use gears to shift when you accelerate or decelerate. It uses a sophisticated pulley system instead that will work with your driving style. If you have any questions, or would like to test drive one of the models that has this option, contact us soon!

“ The staff there are wonderful and really work hard to make sure that they meet your needs. Jay helped us through the whole experience and was always positive and willing to answer all of our questions at any time of the day. My fiance and I had very specific needs for our vehicle and Jay worked with us through everything to make sure we found the car we both wanted and needed that fit our specifications. Unlike certain dealers in the area, never once did we feel pressured to buy immediately, Jay made sure that what we were looking at was exactly what we wanted. He made sure that we were comfortable with the whole car buying experience and were 100% satisfied with what we picked out. Thank you Jay and World Car! You definitely have our business any time we need a new car! ”

“ Rudy is the friendliest, kindest guy you could meet when shopping for a car. I could write a whole essay about how nice and thoughtful he is, but the most important thing is that he listens to you. He will listen to you when you tell him what you need and want and he will do his best for you. I met him through my dad when I bought my first car. He knew I was already in love with the Soul, but he made sure I didn't leave without being completely informed on all its features. I referred my fiance Brandon to him a year later when he was replacing his used car. Rudy helped him through the process of buying and familiarizing him with the Optima that Brandon had chosen. A month didn't even pass before we got a referral check from him in the mail. Whether you know what you want already or not - Rudy can help you out. I highly recommend speaking to him if you stop by. And if he's reading this, thank you again for everything! ”
